Review: L.O.L. Surprise! Biggie Pets

I would never have imagined that L.O.L. Surprise craze would last for so long in our household (and in general).

L has been a massive fan of all series and ranges, she not only changes toy's outfits or finding out it's features, L also moved to a different level of creativity- role play. Perhaps Youtube tutorials and videos involving L.O.L. Surprise!! helped a little too.

Few weeks ago we have received something that I believe is not widely known just yet, but few videos here and there have caught my eye- L.O.L. Surprise! Biggie Pets (£36.99, available at the most toy retailers).
So imagine L.O.L. Surprise! ball but bigger, including versatile toys and accessories and something even cooler- secret messages hidden all over the packaging and even inside!

This time there are no layers of surprise to reveal, the clue who is inside the ball is right on the box itself and if you look very carefully you can even spot some features of the pet by looking through an almost see-through ball.

Once the box was not so carefully opened and plastic wrapper removed we were ready to see what is inside this gorgeous ball and inside the box.
Inside the box we found: white frame'd Eye Spy series glasses with pink lens, an accessory that could be a collar or a choker or perhaps a handle for something.
If you remember in previous series L.O.L. Surprise! balls came with different type of handles some looking like a zip well in the new L.O.L. Surprise! Biggie Pets this large ball represents a handbag! Yes it might be awkward to carry but I bet it will be filled with all L.O.L. Surprise! dolls soon.
The Biggie Pet that we received was a very cute bunny called Hop Hop or how L called it at first Bon Bon.

Hop Hop is not just a big bunny it is also a money box and a quirky backpack (yes it even has a ribbon/strap attached to it's tail and some "plastic loops" on the head). Inside the Hop Hop we have found lots of accessories and toys starting from a bone that has a secret message/joke inside and that can be used as a charm for the necklace to "treasure" boxes with kinetic alike sand and some hidden mini pets inside.

At first I was a little puzzled how our mini pets were a little mismatched from collector's leaflet but after watching some Youtube videos it seems to be the idea. It also appears that inside each Hop Hop you may find completely different mini pets and even different quantities 2 or 3.

The spy theme fits very well within the series, L discovered that by putting large glasses on she can read secret messages or puzzles on the box and even on the Hop Hop's strap aka backpack ribbon.
Other accessories were: wish bone, another choker or perhaps a bracelet, fortune teller, pet scoops, mini glasses for L.O.L. pets or even dolls, mini harness and collar. Some of these accessories come with little loops which can be used if you wish to attach them to the necklace, keychain or a bracelet, you are absolutely not limited in your options!
I have been restricting L's play with the sand from mini crates (as it happens L likes to cover carpets and sofas in it) but Hop Hop has already slept by L's side on few occasions, Hop Hop has been on mini trips to restaurants and generally used around the house as a toy on it's own or as a storage for little L.O.L. Surprise! accessories and dolls.

Such a versatile toy, which I am planning to keep as a centrepiece in L's toy room. I just love it's pastel colours but I am sure if L had a different pet form the range (Neon Kitty, Hamster or Dog) we would be pleased with it too! Just look at their cute, big eyes!

In the Night Garden Live

We were invited to watch the final show of In the Night Garden (Birmingham) 2018 and it was spectacular.

This is our third time of viewing the show and it did not disappoint.

We opted for the pinky ponk show, purely based on the starting time. There is an earlier show which is the Ninky Nonk show.

We arrived a couple of minutes prior to the show and arrived/parked without any issues.

The showdome is sign posted well around the park with excitable families walking towards the dome, so you can’t miss it. We were greeted by enthusiastic staff members as we entered who commented on L’s desire to wear a unicorn headband (very night garden!).

The dome is well decorated and there are stalls for merchandise up on entry.

Once you walk through the small walkway, the dome opens up into a lovely green area, which has seating for all the family and great views of the stage from all directions.

We opted to sit at the top half and centrally, to get the best view (but not too far away).

The show started with the recognised ‘round and round’ tune, with the parent hand stroking the child’s palm, greeted by a cheer when Iggle Piggle’s sail boat appeared in the background.

The show featured Makka Pakka, who wanted to wash everyone’s face. He appears in both large form and small puppet form (which the cast move with their hands is a smooth formation). He appeared in each scene with a willingness to take out his sponge and clean
away.. even though he nearly lost his sponge at one point!

L sang along to Makka Pakka song, Iggle Piggle song (which the dome erupted when he entered the stage) and Upsy Daisy (L’s favourite – show likes the tune for her intro song).

The show also features the Tomliboo’s and the Pontipines .. who also get their faces washed by Makka Pakka’s sponge and soap (which he keeps on his trendy push bike).

All of the children around us stood for the majority, singing and dancing to each of the characters entry theme. Everyone seemed to recognised all of the characters as they appeared on stage and were greeted by cheers from all.

The bubbles were a great touch to a super show, with the kids trying to catch them as they were blown around the dome (from both sides).

L was smaller when we last visited the night garden live, so likely watched the show for the colours and sounds.. However she seemed to grasp the characters a lot better and sang the songs with ease.

All in all an excellent afternoon out at the showdome to watch In the Night Garden.

We opted to remain in Canon Hill park afterwards and the play area is located right outside the showdome, so L did enjoy herself on a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.

I would definitely recommend the night garden live to anyone who has little ones, as it is really good fun.

Unicorn themed birthday party

Our darling little L is 4! I was planning Unicorn themed birthday celebrations for months, and finally the time has come to put all decorations up and celebrate this big event!

I have teamed up with Personalised parties who provided cute unicorn themed party pack for a party of 8 (£29.99),  Wowtastic online shop have kindly provided Unicorn space hopper (£16.80) and Unicorn hatch grow eggs (£1.45) for party bags and lastly we had mini unicorn pinata (£6.95) and iridescent foiled unicorn bunting (£5.75) from lovely Luck & Luck.

We have invited L's close friends from pre-school to a mini Unicorm themed garden party as I thought that I would feel so much more comfortable being in my own home, be in control of drinks and food and having kids all close by.

Preparations started few days in advance, I needed something to create almost a photo backdrop for conservatory as it meant to be an escape room in case of a rain. I have spent several hours looking for a cheap alternative and came across plastic table cloth in purple on ebay which was about 99p, to finish the look I was lucky to grab the last Unicorn wall sticker from B&M bargains for £3.99 which was a perfect addition for the my wall decoration (I kept it in the packaging) and it was also used to play famous version of  "pin a horn on a unicorn" game.
For little kiddos we prepared a separate table with snacks and drinks served in Personalised Parties tableware, we opted for a simple personalisation on plates, food flags and party bags saying "L's party". Party bags were very easy to assemble I just had to follow the number instructions on the bottom side of the bag, so were party hats, masks and food flags as the set comes complete with elastic cocktail sticks.
We had few jokes about parents not being able to share the same set as we only had enough for kids, which is a bit of a downside.

I decided not to go overboard with the party bag contents and kept it small but sweet. I have put couple of Unicorn themed printable colouring pages, Haribo mini bag, Unicorn hatch grow eggs (L had to try her own prior to the party), I have also put the masks from the Personalised Party set into the party bag which was a good idea as party hat were destroyed by kids the moment they got them.

Unicorn hatch grow egg was perhaps more than just a toy for L, she carefully listened to the instructions and tried to look after the egg as if it was real. "Hatching" didnt take long- approx. 24 hours and required a simple jar or a glass filled with water to allow an egg to hatch and for the hatching unicorn to expand. L was checking on the egg every so often and would tell me straight away if she spotted the unicorn or if the egg cracked more. I wasn't sure for how long we should be keeping unicorn in the water so after 2 days of waiting I allowed L to take it out and dry our little unicorn baby. It feels a little jelly and looks a little wrinkly but it's a fantastic idea and a very cheap party bag filler!

Unicorn space hopper took the main centre stage with it's pretty pink main and tail and golden horn. It was very easy to blow up as it comes with a hand pump and took us literally no more than 5 minutes! Unicorn hopper survived bouncing, squashing and many other things adventurous pre-schoolers were happy to do with it which just shows how durable the toy is. It's been almost a week and the unicorn didn't deflate at all! Even though it says that the product is for the age range 3+, I would say that it could even work for a 1 year old toddler too.

To make the party more interesting I have also planned to play "Pin the horn on a unicorn" and a unicorn version of chase, where guests attached pegs with ribbons to their clothes at the back to represent unicorn's tail. I was planning another game with the cute pinata we have been provided, but due to it's miniature size (17cm high) it remained a table's centrepiece. I was really surprised to learn that kids actually knew what to do with pinata. Maybe until next time when they are a little bit older and I am feeling less stressed about them hitting each other with the stick/basher.
The last but not least I wanted to mention Iridescent foiled unicorn bunting. Preparation and decoration of our conservatory with iridescent foiled unicorn bunting was lots of fun. As always I didn't look at the packaging and assumed that it would be fully assembled and we would just need to put it up, my fault! Thankfully we had few minutes before the party started to make our own unicorn bunting. The set comes complete with tissue paper, pink woolen thread and unicorn cut outs.
It was extremely easy to do and didn't require any special skill hence I allowed L to get involved too. So we used purple, baby pink, peach and bright pink tissue paper to roll and create a tassel, once that was done we just needed to thread through iridescent foiled unicorn cut outs followed by a tassel which created a unicorn's tail look, very cute!

Some may say that perhaps I went overboard with filling the space with Unicorn items but I think that helped to break the ice in a way and create a party atmosphere. It just seems that it wouldn't be a proper Unicorn party without all these goodies!

Review: "I Learn" range from Gifts for little hands online shop

Being a mum of a bilingual child can be difficult, there night be a slower speech development, one language can be overlapping the other and many more other obstacles.

As L is going to school in September I thought that we need to up the game a little bit. Gifts for little hands have a great range called "I learn" covering basics of learning, reading and writing. I have opted for a product suitable for a slightly older kids 5+ but I feel it not only allows you to remember letter but develop the knowledge- I Learn to Read worth £19.99.
The activity set comes in a colourful plastic case with 2 compartments: 1st section has 15 activity cards with holes for each letter and the 2nd section has mini letter blocks.

Each activity card has a different level of complexity starting from copying the word/object by looking at the image and a clue word, spelling and finding missing first, middle or end letters and spelling the word by looking at the image.
All words consist of no more than 5 letters, each letter has it's own colour code which aids kids in finding the right letter quicker and fitting it in the correct compartment.

The child can try and fit any letter in any of the card's compartments but if it's incorrect letter it won't work as each letter on the card has mini holes which will only match with the "prickly" backing of letter blocks.

Even thought I learn To Read is aimed at 5+ year olds I think it is a perfect activity for L, she recognises letters and will try to match them to the picture, is mesmerised by her own ability to guess a letter, she loves how colourful and entertaining it is and I can see how the activity aid in learning to read, it just seems like a perfect reading/learning tool for L!

I Learn range also offers other educational activities for little ones: I Learn Maths, I Learn to Write, I Learn Numbers, I Learn on my my to Reception, I Learn Syllables, I Learn Letter and I Learn Shapes.

Father's Day with Personalised parties

I am always last minute when it comes to buying gifts for Father's Day. This time I had a good excuse as we have been away for 2 weeks. Personalised parties had such a great range of products for the upcoming day starting from Notebooks for "Retro Tech Dads" to Personalised Dad's Bike Chocolate Bar.

Father's Day range includes (personalisation option available): wrapping papers, mugs, chocolate bars and notebooks.

I have opted for 2 products that I thought are a close match to man figures in our family-

an notebook for thoughts and doodles of a "lone rider"- perfect match!

What have you or your little ones bought for this spacial day?

Review: Learning Club- monthly subscription box for pre-school children

I am a big fan of practical and educational toys so when Gifts For Little Hand asked us to review a recently launched The Learning Club- monthly subscription box for pre-school children I knew it would be something to look forward to.

"The Learning Club is a subscription box with a difference – packed full of fun activities and carefully crafted to help children aged 3-5 years to learn and develop".
The subscription box was posted through the letterbox while we were away which seems to be very convenient- you don't have to wait for the courier to arrive or sign for the package.
At first I have noticed little touches such as The Learning Club characters on the box itself and of course personalisation "To Little L". L loves to check the post everyday and would search for her letter (L) on address labels, just imagine how happy she was not only to spot her big L but to know that this package is actually for her!
The contents of the box were nicely packed in a tissue paper and sealed with the branded label, all looking tasteful and cute!

So what have we received:
- Learning Club booklet with all information we need to know about each item with detailed instructions
- a little round tray and a mini bag of sand for mark making
- a book to read
- some craft supplies for a certain activity
- progress chart with start stickers

From what I have gathered each Learning Club character represents a certain area of leaning which is covered each month.
Our first box was dedicated to Lucas Lion and activities focusing around literacy.
We have started with "getting to know" Lucas Lion and used crafty supplies provided to create the character by using wooden spoon, yellow and red paints, paint brush, a pair of googly eyes, glue, mini mixing spatula, permament marker and coloured threads.
Next up was mark making activity which we performed by using Flash Card (provided) set, mini tray and sand. It was perhaps the messiest out of all 3 activities but fun and educational nonetheless.

As the day was coming to an end L asked daddy to read her the book which was also provided in the subscription box. "Book of the month" was Cinderella, a well-known fairy-tail and one of L's favourite too!

Overall, I am very impressed with the contents of the Learning Club subscription box and the way it was all presented. Educational toys are certainly suitable for L's age and will be used over and over. And this is what entice me in this particular project-practical and educational!

Having said that I felts that perhaps arts and crafts activity was advanced as needed more encouragement and involvement from an adult, but kids are all different and could me more or less developed.

Learning Club subscription box can make a great present, which you can opt to purchase for a duration of 4, 7 or 12 months with price starting from £60; or you you can opt for a monthly (£15 per month) or annual (£144) subscription.

Learning Club also have a 50% discount code at the moment: LC50 so hurry it's an incredibly good deal!

BABY Secrets Weekend Fun

We have been recently challenged to do some duck themed activities with BABY Secrets characters and I just couldn't say 'no' as firstly we find ducks very cute and secondly L just adores those cute and sometimes naughty BABY Secrets babies.

So whilst the weather was perfect for picnics and long walks, little L and I decided to make ourselves comfortable in the garden and do some painting.

We looked at the paint pots that were included with the duck money box, looked at the colour mixing instructions and the main picture of the duck form the packaging so that L is clear on the end result. Having said that I didn't want to control the process as it was an activity for L more so, and as a free spirit that she is, L decided on her own colour theme for the money box.

Once the money box was dry, on the fresh air it took few minutes, L was ready to feel the box with the coins out of my purse. Money box was an apt gift for L as she is very much into counting coins and playing "shop" games.
On a little bit duller day we decided to cheer ourselves up by baking yummy chocolate chips cookies out of the mix provided with our bundle. Cheeky Baby Secrets babies just had to be included in the process.
To my surprise the process was very simple and didn't take long: pour the mix into the bowl, add could of tablespoons of water and stir until it looks like dough. Creating duck shapes took a little longer as I think I put too much water in the mix and it was a little too sticky but I think we pulled it off!

Review: yummy veg and fruit snack for kids- Googly Fruit

When L was smaller we had a little obsession with buying certain veggie pouches for her to eat as it seemed the only way of filling her little stomach with goodness (or so we thought!). Until family member started to mention that L looks jaundice, which was later confirmed by doctors. It wasn't liver jaundice but carotene one which was cause by excessive amounts of carrots in L's meals.

Upon investigation we found that every single pouch and every single jar L had consisted of small or big amounts of carrots which was the cause for L's orange tint. Since then we are more cautious about what goes into L's mouth and ours for that matter, we try to eat healthy and stay away from nasty ingredients in our food.
Few weeks ago L was very delighted to receive a yummy package from Googly Fruit, who are on a "mission to help kids make a lifelong friendship with fruit and veg...The Googly Fruit range is made from 100% organic fruit and veg with no added nonsense".

We have received a selection of fruit and veg pouches, freeze- dried crunchy fruit pieces and crunchy fruit and veg puffs, Goodly Fruit activity book, sticky googly eyes and "learn your ABC" book all with cute googly characters on the packaging!

L was very eager to test everything and perhaps would have eaten all at once but eventually picked crunchy strawberry(£1.50)!

"Our tasty Googly Fruit Made Crunchy are made from 100% fruit. Their secret is that they’ve been freeze-dried to turn them into delicious crunchy bites! They’re additive-free and 100% organic, naturally! From Bella Blueberry and Rory Raspberry to Suzie Strawberry, they’ve all got one thing in common: they’re yummy scrummy and super crunchy!"

The smell was divine and as I have tried them too I can tell you first hand that strawberries taste yummy! The package itself can be re-sealed, same goes for other crunchy fruits from the range. I would love to see veggie crunchy crisps added to the range!

Pouches (£1) "taste them and you'll realise just how good they are. As with all our Googly Fruit products, we don't like nonsense so you won't find any artificial ingredients. Each pouch contains 100% organic fruit and veg (often hidden from your kids) and counts as one of your five-a-day. Don't forget we're super handy and (almost) spill free.
Fruit ones  have always been my favourite part of weaning, probably L would agree with that, but as this is not about me but about L and other kids wanting to eat more fruit and veg (especially veg for us) I offered L to try a pouch with sweet potato, apple and clementine first. If with the first taste L wasn't sure about it, she didn't mind to try the pouch few more times. I had a little taster too and found that sweet potatoes are slightly overpowering other 2 flavours.

With crunchy puffs (£0.75) "are a great alternative snack to fat-filled crisps. These easy to serve crunch sensations are the ideal size for kids’ little hands - and suitable for small teeth. Once you’ve got a taste for them, you just can’t stop crunching!"
You can't go wrong- great snack, settle flavours, perfect for when out and about or a great, healthy snack for nursery/pre-school.
Googly Fruit branding follows throughout the packaging and activities that can be found on the brand's website and in the paper activity book that can be purchased separately.  Activities help kids to discover the love for fruits and veg through fun colouring, getting to know fruity and veggie characters and much more.

I would love to see how the brand expands it's range and looking forward to see lots and lots of Googly Fruit (and veg) fans! If you would like to give these funky snacks a go you can find them in Superdrugs, Ocado, I have also seen them on Amazon and Kidschoo.com

Back to School with Stickerscape name labels

Since L joined pre-school we were constantly reminded to label all the clothing. I have tried few other products before and even though they would last long, it turns out they are too good and perhaps not as practical as I wanted them to be (I am talking about re-selling labeled items).

With new term and new season fast approaching I have a new pile of clothes to label, I don't actually mind doing it as I am super excited to try new brand- Stickerscape.
"At Stickerscape we make gorgeous, high quality wall stickers especially for children. Our multi award-winning wall stickers can give any nursery, bedroom or playroom a super-speedy makeover and transform plain walls into fun backgrounds for exciting, imaginative play".

I have opted to review Mixed Name Labels with a bird theme as the set provides a nice variety of sizes and types of labels for most surfaces. This set also comes in 2 sizes- little pack for £7.50 and big pack for £16.

'Each pack type contains the following:

Big pack
30 x Mini stick on labels (4.7 x 0.9 cm)
32 x Medium stick on labels (4.5 x 1.8 cm)
14 x Round stick on labels (3.3 cm diameter)
8 x Large stick on labels (10 cm x 1.8 cm)
60 x Mini iron on labels (4.7 x 0.9 cm)
27 x Iron on care labels (3.5 x 1.75 cm)

Little pack
30 x Mini iron on labels (4.7 x 0.9 cm)
16 x Medium stick on labels (4.5 x 1.8 cm)'

Stickerscape can also offer to order Mixed Name Labels set with either stick on labels only or iron on labels only which could perhaps be more suitable for those parents who have a particular preference.

Order process was extremely easy:
- click on the product required with a chosen design
- write the name of your child  (and school ID) in a box when ordering a set
- add to shopping basket

How to:
At the beginning I didn't read instructions (which can be found at the back of the label's envelope) and tried to peel off and cut out iron on labels- this is not the right way to do it. It was incredibly easy to apply stick on labels-just peel off and stick on any surface and spot, with iron on labels you need to gently peel them off, apply facing upwards to the correct spot, cover with parchment paper and by using hot iron slightly move back and forth with it until the label sticks, which will be in no time!

I like variety of colours and designs and will be sure to use these labels in the future.

Delivery was super quick too, from the moment I have ordered them (on extremely snowy day) it took approximately 2 working days!

Super service and super quality too!

Arts & Crafts: Easter themed activities 'no filter'

What's an Easter Hunt without a handmade, unique basket?! And this is exactly what I decided to make for little L whilst she was making her own Eater basket decorations.
This was a 'no filter' arts and crafts activity by this I mean that the creation was 100% made my my child, this is something you won't see in pretty and 'posed' Pinterest images!

To make our Easter weekend more creative Duck Tape sent us a variety of  colourful tape to use.
I came up with an idea of making an Easter Hunt basket for which I have used:
- Duck Tape
- disposable mushroom plastic tray (empty) for the base
- empty milk carton for the handle

All I had to do was:
to cut a strip from the carton box which would be enough width and length for the basket, apply Duck Tape all around the plastic tray and the handle, apply some washi tape instead of a glue for the handle and done!
Whilst I did that, I have printed some bunny and egg templates for L to cut and to use for her own activity. L was supplied with scissors which she used under my supervision, she had some strips of washi tape of different colours.
All she needed to do is to cut bunny and egg shapes carefully and to apply funky washi tape to make unique decorations, which was very easy and fun to do!

Review: Easter themed bouquet of flowers from Prestige Flowers

I just love when the house is filled with a scent of flowers and with Easter holiday fast approaching it makes me feel like spring is just around the corner!
Prestige Flowers were kind enough to send us an Easter themed bouquet of flowers which is reduced to £19.99 at the moment and comes with free flower feed and a mini box of British Chocolate Truffles (these are delicious!).
Flowers arrived with the courier packed in the Prestige Flowers branded box. Upon opening the box we saw a neatly packed bouquet of flowers, a cute teddy (can be purchased additionally for £5.99) with Prestige Flowers embroidered on one of the legs, a vase (can be purchased additionally for £5.99), truffles, flower care guide booklet and lastly a card from Prestige Flowers team (you can personalise your own message).
Bouquet arrived in a perfect condition and well packed with a water pouch to keep them healthy.

"A traditional and exciting arrangement with Spring tulips, pink roses and gypsophilia. The theme is completed with the nestling of an Easter chick ".
L asked to "look after" Eater chick which of course I didn't mind, once flowers were in the vase it was easier to take the stick with a chick on out. It looks really cute and if last us long enough can be used for future Easter themed arts and crafts activities.
I opted to keep flowers in it's original packaging- white cellophane wrapping paper but you can easily arrange them in a vase.

It's been almost a week since we have received our lovely bouquet of flowers and they still look as good as new! Don't think you can go wrong with Prestige Flowers!

Did you know you can order flowers to be delivered in almost any part of the world too?!

Review: The Jungle Book Musical by Immersion Theatre

Few weeks ago we were invited to see  a brand new musical adaptation of family favourite- 'THE JUNGLE BOOK' ( Immersion Theatre production) at the Palace Theatre in Redditch.

"You are invited to join Mowgli and his friends, Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther, on a madcap jungle adventure as they meet and attempt to outwit a slithering snake, some cheeky monkeys, and the fierce tiger, Shere Khan!"

As we sat down to see the show I was pleasantly surprised to see a very cosy venue with colourful decorations on the stage. With few minutes to spare before the show L and I spoke about the characters from the Jungle Book to refresh her memory and prepare for what was about to commence. The moment the show started and Baloo the bear appeared with his 'unbearable' jokes and enthusiastic personality I knew the show would be a success

The show follows the familiar story line from the book with few twists to suit versatile audience. There is a lot of dancing, adult jokes and singing involved along with some audience interactions which was quite fun! I found myself smiling throughout the show as you can see how much effort and preparations goes in the show!

This "Jungle Book" adaptation will blow your mind with it's "pantomime" alike script, upbeat songs, amazing actors' transformations (from a suede looking Bagheera suit jacket to tall elephants, from caring Raksha- mother wolf to Kaa with a northern accent, oh watch out for King Louie- it will blow your mind!).

During the break I had a quick chat with the lady who sat next to us, she booked tickets for herself and a friend, she thoroughly enjoyed the musical which just shows that the production is suitable for all ages!

At the end of the show we were invited to the foyer where we could meet Mowgli herself (yes you read that right), Shere Khan and Baloo and pose for a picture with them. A special credit to Mowgli (Rachael Stratton) as she managed to quickly calm little L as someone jumped the queue, thank you, Mowgli!

The show is around 1hr 30 min including interval which seems to be a sufficient amount of time for pre-schooler or an adult and ticket prices start from £12.
